JALA Group Announces Successful Printing of Asian Skin Using 3D Bioprinting Technology

SHANGHAI, Feb. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- JALA Group, a leading cosmetics company in China, recently announced that for the first time in the world, the company has successfully printed the skin of Asians using the 3D bioprinting technology.
In order to assure the smooth and reliable progress of the project, JALA Group established a special R&D team of engineering, biomaterial, cell biology, pharmaceutical and regenerative medicine scientists from both China and France. After 98 experiments, the R&D team built the first Asian skin model using bioprinting technology. As a partner of JALA Group, France-based LabSkin Creations brought to the project advanced, unique and diversified 3D skin models, which, combined with high quality and sensitive analysis and detection methodology, provide a complete range of professional and customized solutions for the efficacy evaluation of everyday chemicals and materials. Over the last few years, LabSkin Creations developed and obtained a patent for bioink, a unique technology that enables in vitro reconstruction of skin tissues with 3D bioprinting. Using the technology, JALA Group successfully built 3D bioprinted skin using skin cells from Asians.
There are specific differences between Asian and Caucasian skin in terms of structure and texture, and acquired factors such as diet, environment and air pollution as well as the Asian preference for avoiding any exposure to the sun can affect skin characteristics.
